July 15 Program: Nikola Olic "Poetry and Portraiture in Architectural Photography"

Nikola Olic is a Serbian American photographer based in Dallas, Texas. His photographs have been published widely and were most recently exclusively used to launch the New York Times Architectural Quiz series. His work has appeared in WIRED Magazine, Washington Post, USA Today, The Guardian, Photo London, The Boston Globe and many others. He was included in the UK's 2023 Aesthetica Art Prize, 2024 Critical Mass Photography Competition Finalist, was featured in the 2024 Texas Photography Festival and is participating in the 2025 Marfa Invitational. Nikola will join us via Zoom.

The unstaged and unmanipulated photography of Nikola Olic seeks poetry and portraiture in architecture, seen as sculptural studies of the modern everyday and intimate portraits of contemporary monuments. Architecture's infinite visual possibilities and mixed and complex intents are examined through diverse subjects that can be ambiguous, disorienting or even absent. This in turn provides a sustained gaze at the unintended, unclaimed and uninhabited visual worlds that are hidden in plain sight, with a variety of different architectural conclusions, truths and final states.
